Meals We Love...

Me before my weight loss. Only picture of food I could find for this food post. :P

A short story to share:

I just returned home from the grocery store. While I was in the freezer section a cute older lady came by and laughed at how I was picking bags of frozen veggies out of the freezer and tossing into my cart. I started telling her how excited I was to use the veggie mixes in lots of meals. I started showing her how they don't contain much of anything except veggies. Her reply was, "gotta find deals though" My heart sank. I wanted to cry. I know I don't seem like the type to most, but it hurt my heart. Billie and I talk all the time about how expensive it is to eat healthy and I genuinely felt bad for this elderly person who is probably on a fixed income. :( For those of us who work we can find a way to afford it. For Billie and myself just cutting out all the take out food and pop increased our income so we could afford to buy healthy.

Remember we do use Advocare products along with our healthy eating. If you become an Advocare distributor you can make extra money for healthier food as well as help others like we are doing. If you want to know more let me know or give me your number and I will have Billie call you, but don't worry I will not send things to your email. You just reach out when you are ready.

Good American Meals We All LOVE!!! Ok so maybe not American in the beginning of their creations, but we love em!!!

First of all you do not have to give up carbs for this life change. You need carbs. You need energy. A diet that zaps your energy cannot be healthy. Advocare promotes health. I feel 25 again. I feel alive again! Pop is an enemy. I now know how it was controlling our lives.

First thing you need to do is switch to wheat or whole grain breads and pastas, trust me you will get used to it.

If you go on a little grocery store adventure, which is kinda fun, you will find low sodium products galore. Mrs. Dash makes all kinds of no salt products.

Meal Ideas!!!

***************************************************************************

Spaghetti

Wheat pasta

lean beef (the leanest you can get) or turkey burger

low sodium pasta sauce (I found a NO salt pasta sauce at Wal-mart) If you cannot find a no salt then buy the lowest sodium you can find, that is what I do.

mushrooms (no salt) unless you are in your ten day challenge if in challenge wait to eat mushrooms when you are finished with the challenge

can of no salt diced tomatoes

All the herbs you want to add because they do not contain salt, things like garlic, basil, oregano!!!

***************************************************************************

Tacos

Mrs dash taco seasoning or lowest sodium version you can find.

If you must have taco shells buy the soft wheat variety or just make taco salads with lettuce and no chips.

In the organic aisle at Kroger they have a very low sodium bag of tortilla chips that are really good. They are called Garden of Eatin. I must have some tortilla chips, so if you are like me then here is the solution.

All the lettuce, tomatoes you want. Remember if in your 10 day cleanse no corn products.

Pico de gallo

Oh my gosh we love Pico de gallo! It is a mixture of tomatoes, onions and a little jalapeno (or something for some kick) This stuff is great on tacos, in chili, in omelets, maybe even on baked potatoes. And yes you can eat baked potatoes! Use this in place of salsa or taco sauce if you cannot find low sodium versions.

We use some cheese and sour cream just buy low fat. (unless you are in your cleanse in that case wait ten days for dairy).

lean beef or turkey burger (turkey is by far the healthiest)

***************************************************************************

Chili

Lean beef or turkey burger

Mrs Dash No salt chili powder or the lowest sodium version you can find.

Northern beans or kidney beans, yes they have no or low sodium versions!!!

diced tomatos, and yes the rotella (which has a kick) has low sodium versions too!

Onions, they are fine!!!

Unsalted top crackers, yes we cheat with our crackers a bit, just don't go crazy.

Low fat cheese and sour cream if you must have them.

If you love grilled cheese or peanut butter sandwiches with your chili then use wheat bread, low fat cheese, and/or the Natural Jif peanut butter which you can find at the dollar store.

***************************************************************************

Chicken

Recently I cooked a whole chicken in the crock pot with some I Can't Believe Its Not Butter (it was awesome) as a side dish I used a bag of frozen peppers, onions, celery and cut up about ten small new potatoes and fried in olive oil spray. I buttered two pieces of 35 calorie wheat bread (ICBINB) You can also add some salad on the side (be mindful of dressings you use) and it was a great meal! I will add images of exactly what this meal consists of below:

***************************************************************************

Pizza!!! Cheat night only!

Wheat crusts that you find already cooked and in packages. If you really want to cut even more use whole wheat tortillia shells as a very, very thin crust.

Turkey pepperonis (use in moderation because high salt content.)

All the veggies you want to add, YUM!

Use the no salt spagetti sauce I showed above for sauce.

Low fat Mozzerella cheese.

Oven or grill until cheese nice and brown. :)

You are allowed to have baked fries, just make then yourself by cutting up potatos!!!

***************************************************************************

Other Food Stuff

French Fries

You can bake fries, you can have baked potatoes, cottage cheese, please don't go hungry.

**************************************************************************

Want something sweet? Use in moderation, but I did find this->

Very low sugar, low sodium and dark chocolate.

***************************************************************************

Swiss cheese is the lowest sodium cheese :)

***************************************************************************

Eating out?

Subway/wheat bun/grilled chicken/roasted chicken with lots of veggies!!!

***************************************************************************

Instead of salt use the brand called No Salt.
